OPINION: ‘Mall event organisation was chaos’

I saw two children sustain injuries and many adults fighting and pushing to get nothing more than a photo.

DEAR Editor,-

With regards to the article published in the Herald on July 15 entitled ‘Mall invaded by mice’ when Mickey and Minnie Mouse visited the Southcoast Mall. Firstly, I’d like to ask if journalist/photographer Vee Ramsayi was there. I think if Vee had been there, the article would have been very different.

It was total chaos! I took my two-year-old to see her idols and came away with a very frightened and distressed child. The event organisation was a total shambles and there was a total disregard for the safety of everyone there.

I personally saw two children sustain injuries and many adults fighting and pushing to get nothing more than a photo – it was crazy.

I’m not normally a person who is bothered to write and complain, as I often think that it does no good other than getting myself even angrier. However I felt I had to put this in writing to The Herald, as it seems to have missed the bigger story here.

What the story should have been about was the total lack of management and responsibility of the Southcoast Mall management team.

The safety of our children was at risk that day and I’m sure if you check certain local social media sites (which seems to be where everyone collates information) you will see the distress caused by this event.

I’m almost positive I won’t get a response, but it makes me feel a little better that I’ve had my say.
