OPINION: ‘Drivers, not roads, cause accidents’

Please place the responsibility firmly where it belongs.

DEAR Editor,-

The Herald’s coverage of road accidents invariably apportions the blame to either adverse weather conditions or the state of the roads, but these are secondary contributing factors.

The root cause surely is the inability and/or unwillingness of motorists to adjust their driving standards to the variable conditions encountered, rather than erroneously believing in their own driving capabilities. Please place the responsibility firmly where it belongs.
