The quick changing traffic lights at the Abingdon Road intersection in Tweni are an accident waiting to happen. In the Abingdon Road/Commercial Road direction, the traffic light stays green for about seven seconds. If you allow a two-second gap to avoid fast cars along the R102 speeding through on red, it leaves just enough time for three cars to get through from Tweni onto the main road. As a result, there are traffic back-ups on Abingdon Road during the morning rush hour. And now drivers are using the left-hand lane at Abingdon Road to turn right towards Port Shepstone, which puts them on a collision course with vehicles coming from Commercial Road.
