OPINION: Call to tackle traffic lights and crime

Settlers Park harbours criminals and nobody seems to be able to join the dots.

Dear Editor,

I have two issues that our wonderful municipality seems to have turned a blind eye and deaf ear to.

1 The traffic lights in Umtentweni. Traffic entering the main road from Abington Spar area are given five seconds until the green light changes. This causes havoc in the mornings.

2 After spending millions on palisade fencing for Settlers Park (twice – as the first contractor ran with the money) the gate is left open. This defeats the purpose as to why the fence was erected in the first place ie, to keep vagrants out of the park and reduce crime in the CBD.

But instead the park harbours criminals and nobody seems to be able to join the dots and lock the gate. The current mechanism, when locked, can still be forced open.

I would be happy to go to take puppets and crayons to the relevant person.
