OPINION: ‘Scams can leave you out of pocket’

Once the money is withdrawn from your account, you won’t get it back easily - if at all.

DEAR Editor,-

Recently I received a phone call from a woman with an Indian accent informing me that someone in China was trying to purchase R4 000 worth of goods on my credit card and she just wanted to confirm my bank details because she thought it may be a scam.

Did I give her my details? No. My secret? Do I have a credit card? No I don’t.

I had a credit card once, but gave it up when I no longer needed it. I cut it up into small pieces, which gave me great pleasure. People will keep coming up with all sorts of ways in which they will try to get your money from your pocket and into theirs. Take care. Great care. Once the money is withdrawn from your account, you won’t get it back easily – if at all.
