Dear Editor,
I visited Margate for what was supposed to be a wonderful, relaxing holiday. What an eye-opener!
Since arriving on Thursday, September 22, our expectations of having a great time turned into a nightmare. I booked a flat in Marine Drive, Margate (on the road between the Sasol petrol station and ABSA bank in town).
Women were ‘parading’ in the street and a white vehicle stopped to pick them up.
One of the women was in tears, screaming and crying when she was beaten and forced into the car. My children witnessed all this.
A police minibus filled with police personnel drove past and they did not even stop to help these women. It seems they turn a blind eye. Next, a group of drunk youngsters came past, swearing and screaming and this continued from 8pm to 4am in the morning.
Vehicles drive at dangerously high speeds along this stretch of road.
What has become of Margate? I will never be a holidaymaker in this place again. It is not safe and it was revolting for my children to see.
There have been reports that the ‘powers that be’ are in the process of cleaning up Margate, but only time will tell. I will be advising my family, friends and the public to rethink plans of holidaying in Margate.
MR HOLIDAY
