Inspiration: Don’t give up

The battle is the Lord's so resist the urge to quit.

Then David said to the Philistine, … this day the LORD will deliver you into my hand. Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s. 1 Samuel 17:45-47

IT would seem we have suffered a major setback in terms of education with the recent strikes at universities throughout our nation, not forgetting the loss of loved ones, damage to property and many other issues brought on by this foolish, uncivilized behaviour. You would think that those who have set themselves to advance their education and learning would find creative, intelligent ways to voice their grievances, but it is not so.

All this proves is that man’s wisdom is corrupt-earthly, sensual, devilish as James puts it. I suppose this is what happens when we trust our own reservoirs of knowledge to bring us out of our troubles. We, are however grateful to the leaders of our nation, who are exploring various means to resolve this crisis. But as the people of God, we too have a responsibility.

While to us the future of our education looks bleak from where we stand, we are by no means destroyed.

If there is anything that scripture boasts of, is the God who never abandons His people in times of trouble and uncertainty because of His great love for us. Whether it is neglect, indifference or unbelief that has prevented us from calling on God to help us, we need to repent of it. God speaks through the prophet Isaiah and this is His indictment against us; but this is a people robbed and plundered.

All of them are snared in holes, and they are hidden in prison houses: they are for prey, and no one delivers; for plunder, and no one says, Restore! Isaiah 42:22. The instruction is quite simple –call on God to restore. To restore peace on all of our campuses, to root out this evil, so that it will never rise up again and to help our students use their ideas to bring about change, responsibly.

What an amazing privilege. To think that we have influence with God, to change the prevailing conditions in our land when we simply ask God to intervene in our circumstances. The battle indeed is the LORD’s – not only to deliver but to restore. What we have lost may seem irreplaceable but be assured that when God restores, it is better in quality and or quantity.

David is an amazing example of God’s zealousness for His people and from all of his psalms we see that he was never slack or shy on calling on God to deliver him and to restore.

In his messianic Psalm, God speaking says, I will restore that which I took not away. Psalm 69:4 … God is by no means responsible for this destruction but His promise to us is that He will restore our losses if we will believe in His goodness and trust that His thoughts toward us are good and for good when we call out to Him for help. I encourage you to believe in the grace and mercy of our God and call on Him to help us in this time of need. God is our refuge and strength. A very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1.
