OPINION: ‘Ratepayers are fed up with the anarchy’

Despite many warnings, RNM, it seems, will only wake up when tourism has totally collapsed.

DEAR Editor,-

You can clean up as much as you like, the battle against willful littering and the destruction of the infrastructure will never end until Ray Nknonyeni Municipality enforces the laws against the rampant public consumption of alcohol.

Local law enforcement authorities do nothing to prevent this, yet ratepayers are expected to pick up the tab for the clean-ups we face three times a year before visitors arrive. The RNM needs to know that ratepayers are fed up with the growing anarchy.

Every year the damage is worse, the repairs more extensive and expensive. There will be a double backlash for the municipality. Visitors will stop coming here and locals will become more militant. Despite many warnings, RNM, it seems, will only wake up when tourism has totally collapsed. The demise of our valued beachfront pool is a case in point.
