DEAR Editor,-
I was attacked and mugged in Margate (in former Hibiscus Avenue) on January 17 at approximately 9am. As you can imagine, I looked really dishevelled after the incident and was in distress. In desperation, I flagged down a white car approaching me and if I had been the driver of the car, I would not have stopped for me, looking the way I did. But the woman in the car stopped and assisted me without hesitation.
She introduced herself as Lelo and unfortunately I did not get her surname, but I cannot express how kind, considerate and sympathetically she treated me. She immediately offered to give me a lift home, all the while making sure that I was okay. Lelo dropped me off at home and 15 minutes later, she was back to find out if she could be of any further assistance by taking me to the police station, to the shops, to the bank – anywhere I needed to go.
I thanked her profusely and assured her that all was well for the moment. I was so touched by this Good Samaritan who went out of her way to help me, especially these days when most people do not want to ‘get involved’. Lelo, thank you. God bless you for restoring my faith in humanity. I will never forget your kindness.
