OPINION: ‘Distrust is earned, Mr Zama’

In your detailed plan on pipeline replacements and skills development, I will definitely come and visit you to view this.

DEAR Editor,-

In response to Ugu District Municipality spokesperson France Zama’s comments in last week’s Herald. Mr Zama, the reason why the public doesn’t have trust in Ugu is that you are lying to the press and public.

In your comments you told the press that Ugu initially attended to my complaint, they found that the water was closed off and could not identify the burst pipe. This is blatant lie. The pipe was open and exposed in the middle of the road where the grader had cut it open.

I instructed my son Divan to stay home and keep an eye out for the Ugu vehicle when it passed our house so that he could show them where the problem was. Ugu only came out on day five – my son was at home the entire time waiting for them.

YOU MIGHT ALSO BE INTERESTED IN: Ugu plays the ‘blame game’

To Mr Zama’s statement that relief supply was made available: There was no tanker or JoJo tank in extension 7. Also, according to bylaws, I want to ask Mr Zama whether it states: ‘Where there are four or more units on the property, a JoJo tank must be installed.’ I only have two units on my property.

I would further like to know: The units that do have JoJo tanks (according to your 48 hours) Can you tell me how many hours there are in six days? Residents were without water in excess of 48 hours and Ugu did not deliver water to them. The same with the SPCA. Animals were thirsting in cages and Ugu did not deliver water after 48 hours. I did. This is animal cruelty and also against my constitutional rights.

Mr Zama, in your detailed plan on pipeline replacements and skills development, I will definitely come and visit you to view this. I will make an appointment with you.

Thank you Ugu for the poor service delivery and lying to the public.

A DISAPPOINTED HENNIE MARÉ
