OPINION: ‘Thank you for the tremendous effort’

This year's festival was indeed a challenge in the midst of the ongoing drought.

DEAR Editor,-

A colourful and spiritual Kavady festival reached its climax last Sunday. Special thanks to executive committees and members of local temples on the South Coast for their tremendous effort and success. Kind thanks to Protection Services, Ugu (for water tanker services), South Coast Garden Services for grass cutting and road maintenance, as well as Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

This year’s festival was indeed a challenge in the midst of the ongoing drought. Young and old came to temples to pray to their deities and Lord Muruga. A plus was indeed the opportunity for family and friends to meet.

The January Kavady festival marks the end of the main summer harvesting period and the April Kavady festival marks the start of the planting season. Carrying the Kavady invokes the guiding spirit of Lord Muruga in our lives.

In my personal opinion sometimes religion cannot be explained, but rather experienced. Wishing the Hindu community and the broader South Coast Community everything of the best.
