OPINION: ‘Perhaps the author was confused?’

Need I remind you that most of the issues that Councillor Mthuli is attempting to rectify were carried over from her predecessors?

DEAR Editor.-

The letter entitled ‘Give us a councillor who does care about the ratepayers’ (SCH February 17) refers.

We are only six months into the new term of a new councillor and municipality and already the ‘blame game’ has started. It amazes me that a person who supposedly cares so much about their ward, cannot even find the decency to attach his or her name to a letter.

I am not afraid to say that we should give our new councillor Dorica Mthuli the benefit of the doubt and I give her my full support.

‘Fed up resident and ratepayer’, I know for a fact that Councillor Dorica Mthuli resides in Ward 1 and she is well aware of the boundaries of the ward. If that wasn’t so she wouldn’t have been able to stand as ward councillor in last year’s local government elections.

Perhaps it is you that is confused about the ‘new’ ward boundaries and if you ever need a map of these, I will gladly make it available to you.

I’m quite surprised at how well you know the daily activities of Councillor Mthuli, particularly the amount of time she spends at home? Whoever is providing you with that information is grossly incorrect. I know that Councillor Mthuli is doing her level best, engaging with various sectors of the community on a daily basis, never mind her other council responsibilities as well.

Need I remind you that most of the issues that Councillor Mthuli is attempting to rectify were carried over from her predecessors.

The DA held Ward 1 for over ten years and yet why are we only having these issues raised now – when it’s in the hands of the ANC?

Who’s really to blame? Hmmm … a political agenda methinks!

I encourage all Ward 1 residents to give our duly-elected representative the support she needs. Lest we forget that she has a coastal area and a hinterland area to look after, instead of thinking only about ourselves, we need to realise that in order to make things work properly we must work together.

This attitude of ‘us’ and ‘them’ must change into ‘we’.

‘Rome wasn’t built in a day.’ ANC today, ANC yesterday, ANC forever.
