OPINION: ‘Place the blame where it belongs’

Ratepayers’ money should be spent on public roads - not on private property.

DEAR Editor,-

With reference to the article entitled ‘Warning Potholes Ahead’ (SCH February 10).

The roadway going from the highway into the bus and taxi rank is private property and as such is not the responsibility of the local authority.

I know this because I was responsible for the roadway being built as part of the bus and taxi rank, which I and others owned and built many years ago.

I suggest you correct the editorial and place the blame on the current owners for not maintaining the roadway (who benefit from the development) and not the local authority.

Ratepayers’ money should be spent on public roads – not on private property.
