OPINION: ‘Ray Hood’ splashes out on merry men’

A total of R600 000 was spent on the Budget Roadshow

DEAR Editor,-

The recent Mayoral Budget Roadshow Imbizo for Cluster 7, organised by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and held in the very rural location of Magog, reminded me of the legend of Robin Hood who took from the rich and gave to the poor.

‘Ray Hood’, however, takes from the ratepayers, many of whom are already poor and frivolously spends their hard-earned money.

Robin Hood hid in the depths of Sherwood Forest to avoid detection from the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and his henchmen, while ‘Ray Hood’ set up nearly every roadshow Imbizo in rural areas, well out of sight of the coastal ratepayers.

Robin Hood stood by his merry men as they plundered the pockets of the rich, but Mayor Cynthia Mqebu was nowhere to be seen at the Cluster 7 Imbizo.

Appalling: Fundiswa Ngcobo shows the ‘facilities’ at Magog Sports Field where the Mayoral Budget Imbizo was held.

Five hundred merry men and woman turned up to the Magog Sports Field Imbizo held in a marquee that cost R20 000 a day to hire and were given ‘free’ chicken and chips that cost R110 each.

Portable toilets also had to be hired since the ones at the Magog field had long ago been trashed or stolen.

A total of R600 000 was spent on the Budget Roadshow – even more than is spent on the Ladies Golf Tournament, which in recent years have either been a washout or had to move to Selborne Golf Club as our greens were not up to scratch.
