OPINION: ‘Everyone should help rebuild the hospital’

We should ask what we can do for our people not what the government can do for us and not just criticise.

DEAR Editor,-

I am disappointed with lack of community response in assisting the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital’s eye clinic. I am one of the patients who had an eye operation done and am able to see, courtesy of the fantastic eye clinic staff.

Should we community members, as ‘owners’ of our community hospital, not assist the hospital to rebuild the only eye service provider for our vulnerable Ugu community?

We have local construction companies who have benefited from government contracts, private businesses like the motor industry who are thriving, banks and other organisations like churches who can ‘chip in’ to help rebuild our eye clinic. Opposition parties should also assist if they care about our community.

We should ask what we can do for our people not what the government can do for us and not just criticise.

Please coordinate rebuilding of our hospital, whatever the cause of the fire was – our people need the eye clinic service.

Shame on all of us, especially those making money from government. None deserve tenders without any corporate social responsibility. I and other blind people need your help.
