DEAR Editor,
Why do some housing estates label them selves as ‘eco estates’ and ten years later all the trees are removed? It’s such a joke.
The developers who brought the old St Michael’s golf course had to have an environmental assessment carried out in order to have the development given the go-ahead by the municipality. They also brought in an indigenous landscaper to help plant more trees and shrubs to retain the natural layout that was part of the golf course.
Now several years later, the trees are being removed and the ecological balance has now changed – with no recourse. It just renders the Environmental Protection Agency ‘toothless’ once planning permission is granted.
When the developers move on, surely the management committee also have to adhere to the guidelines?
