DEAR EDITOR:

A hell of a lot has been said on colonisation in the last few days – causing a lot of ill feelings in the community of Scottburgh.

The whole world has been colonised at some time or other, more recently over the last few centuries, notably, America – North and South, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, the East Indies – so… what’s so special about South Africa?

When Jan van Riebeeck arrived at the Cape, the locals hadn’t even invented the wheel and they were building rondavels out of mud.

If you’ve ever been to the Colosseum in Rome, there are a few places that are still not crumbling. Our tour guide stated that the quality of the mortar was superior to the present-day product.

Of course I didn’t believe her, so I quietly picked up a 150mm piece and tried to break it on a sharp corner – it wouldn’t break and this was mixed over 2 000 years ago.

Because Helen Zille tried to say that all colonialism wasn’t bad, she gets it in the neck by the media. ’Nuff said.
