OPINION: ‘Royally ripped off at festival’

An hour-long delay can be attributed to exigent circumstances, but a six-hour delay is inexcusable.

DEAR Editor,-

Two of my friends travelled to the South Coast to attend the Ugu Jazz Festival. Their tickets cost R560 and the ‘park and ride’ was an additional R150.

The music was supposed to start at 10am, but actually started six and a half hours late. By then it was getting cold and my friends decided to return to their car to get their jackets.

However, no pass-outs were allowed, so after watching a grand total of 45 minutes of music, they had to leave because they were freezing.

Upon checking out of San Lameer the following day, they were informed that there was a non-refundable ‘admin fee’ of R400 – and their key deposit of R500 would only be refunded to them in two weeks!

What a terrible advert for the South Coast. An hour-long delay can be attributed to exigent circumstances, but a six-hour delay is inexcusable. My friends were royally ripped off in entertainment and accommodation and will not return.
