OPINION: ‘Actions speak louder than words’

For years we have been complaining about the staff not working the hours they get paid for.

DEAR Editor,

Residents have been asking whether municipal staff at the Tweni Depot are using the ETMS (electronic time management system), but are not getting any answers.

Our observations show nothing has changed at the depot. Late starts, long breaks, early finishes.

Morning break finishes at 10.15am and lunch break starts at 12.30pm. It seems as though they have merged into one long break.

RNM publishing articles in the newspaper regarding cracking down on errant workers is easy. Doing something about it is a different matter.

For years we have been complaining about the staff not working the hours they get paid for and whatever is being done has no effect

Apparently supervisors only wash their cars at lunch time, but this photo was taken at 11.14am last Monday, long before lunch.

As quoted by municipal manager Max Mbili (SCH June 2 ‘Municipal workers given an ultimatum’) “If workers continue to ‘steal’ from ratepayers’ purses, they can forget about getting their salaries or prepare to face charges.” Strong words. Now can we see some action?
