OPINION: ‘Is this a ploy to catch the unsuspecting?’

There are no traffic speed limit signs from Hibberdene to Umtentweni

DEAR Editor,-

I do not know if it will be of any interest, but I felt that I would bring to attention the fact that there are no traffic speed limit signs from Hibberdene to Umtentweni.

I recently moved to the South Coast and in the six months that I have been here, I have received three traffic fines for speeding on the R102. I have checked several times.

YOU MIGHT ALSO BE INTERESTED INOPINION: Check for a sign before paying the fine

Just after the bridge at Hibberdene (travelling south) the speed increases from 60 to 80 and then to 100km/h. After this, there is no traffic sign indicating a reduction of the speed limit until you actually cross the St Faith’s traffic lights before Umtentweni.

I have written to Ray Nkonyeni Municipality indicating that I am not paying the latest fine and would further like to be reimbursed for the previous two. I have also asked them if this is a ploy to catch unsuspecting holidaymakers who travel to the South Coast at certain times during the year.
