OPINION: ‘Negative headlines create the wrong impression’

Surely the headline could have read ‘South Coast child abusers - No place to hide here’?

DEAR Editor,-

Despite the best attempts of business leaders to convince the South Coast Herald to look for the positives in our town, reports persist in trashing the town and placing us in the worst possible light. It is inconceivable that child pornography, abuse, sexual grooming, rape and assault ONLY occurs in our town. (SCH July 14 ‘Coast a haven for child sex offenders’).

Could it not be that it happens – and is happening – in towns all across the country, but maybe here it is because of a willingness by victims, parents and concerned citizens, as well as effective community policing and networking, that these vile monsters are exposed, arrested, prosecuted and brought to book?

Surely the headline could have read ‘South Coast child abusers – No place to hide here’?
