OPINION: ‘Thank you for the new robots in Mkholombe’

Community police forums and SAPS will have to assist in deterring criminals from stealing the recently-installed cables.

DEAR Editor,-

On July 23 an important facet of Mkholombe and surrounding communities’ right to a safe environment was fulfilled by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality. Major robots leading to three different schools have finally been fixed after six months of despair.

I am grateful to the municipality for having responded to the people’s demands (petitioned on July 15th). I am also indebted to the 100 community members who signed the petition.

Children, the disabled and elderly people are once again able to feel safe as they cross the busy junction. In fact, every N2 road user’s life is now protected.

The onus now shifts to members of the community, particularly in Mkholombe, who must adopt a sense of ownership of important resources such as robots.

Community police forums and SAPS will have to assist in deterring criminals from stealing the recently-installed cables.

It is important therefore that the responsible councillor convenes an urgent meeting with Mkholombe community to find out how the fixed robots can be safeguarded from vandalism. Once again, thank you Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
