OPINION: ‘Port Shepstone is absolutely filthy’

The town is covered in takeaway wrappers and containers, which will eventually end up in the ocean.

DEAR Editor,-

It is with sadness that we write a letter about the condition of Port Shepstone, which is absolutely filthy. The condition of the inner roads, in fact all over Port Shepstone, is appalling.

The cemetery is derelict and has been vandalised. The old railway station is dirty and revolting. The town is covered in rubbish in all shapes and forms and left to rot, while every week the garbage increases.

What do visitors think of this? It is unacceptable and certainly does not inspire or invite people to visit the town.

There is very little cleaning done and the municipality is failing to do its duty. Everywhere you go, you see litter.

And where verges are cut and cleaned, the very next day it is filled with rubbish again, as if someone is doing this deliberately.

The town is covered in takeaway wrappers and containers, which will eventually end up in the ocean. The roads are potholed and broken bottles are strewn throughout the streets.

It is a desperate situation and must be attended to before it becomes too overwhelming.
