OPINION: ‘Proposed park location is unsuitable’

Opening up the area will create more favourable conditions for vagrants to move in.

DEAR Editor,-

The proposed park in Umtentweni is a very noble idea, doing something for the community, but we propose a more suitable location be found.

We have stayed in Mgazi Avenue for 17 years and our lot adjoins the proposed site. We have never feared intruders emerging from the bush because its density has deterred vagrants from sleeping there. In 17 years we have never seen anyone sleeping there.

Opening up the area will create more favourable conditions for vagrants to move in – and then what we feared will definitely happen.

For us, the bush provides tranquility and beauty – away from the rush of daily life and developing the park will definitely have an impact thereon. This opportunity is something that not many people have the privilege of experiencing.

During our residency, we have personally seen blue duikers, tree dassies, porcupines, large grey mongoose and many bird species.
