DEAR Editor,-
It may be of interest that during the recent heavy rains, a tree fell over and brought the telephone line down. The line is not broken, but is under tremendous strain and close the ground.

I have tried to report this via the ‘fault reporting’ telephone number 10210, which is the same number used for account enquiries, orders, Telkom cable damage and Telkom internet support.
‘Reporting of possible Telkom cable damages’ is via 0800 203 951, which appears to have the same response as 10210?
When these numbers are called, you are required to give your telephone and ID numbers.
You are then connected to an endless tape recording advising there are long delays, and proceeding to then offer all sorts of information that I don’t want! After 15 minutes of this (twice), I gave up.
The downed telephone line is in Lawrence Avenue, Southport and it will, I am sure, eventually break!
