OPINION: ‘Disease and pestilence will follow…’

I can only stress how irresponsible this municipality is!

DEAR Editor,-

Since the morning of Monday September 18, our water was turned off without prior notification to allow us to collect water in time.

The alleged reason for this was apparently the violent storm on September 16. I do not really believe that, because on the Wednesday evening (20th), we had both hot and cold water with full pressure.

On Thursday (21st), it was disappointment after disappointment and no water until noon on Sunday (24th)!

My dirty dishes were stacked and tons of little black ants and other insects were enjoying the feast.

The toilets began to stink because flushing was done sparingly. We couldn’t cook anything because you need water for cooking and to wash vegetables and fruit.

From a hygiene point of view, bathing or showering was not an option. I think of the many old people, the sick, the very young … and families who have babies.

And obviously there cannot be water at the schools, which means that toilets cannot be used.

From Monday this week (after having water for 24 hours), there was no water again. This is unacceptable. Disease and pestilence will follow. I can only stress how irresponsible this municipality is!
