OPINION: ‘Terrible water situation has become worse’

We collectively need to denounce this sorry state of affairs and insist on a suitable long-term remedy.

DEAR Editor,-

Just googling Ugu over the past four years, I am at a loss for adjectives to describe the absolutely unacceptable train of water problems experienced by South Coast residents over this time.

The terrible situation has steadily become worse. We read about contamination and pollution caused directly and indirectly by Ugu Municipality. We also read that the municipal manager DD Naidoo states that Ugu is bankrupt and on the verge of collapse.

We have our water polluted, we have it switched off, we have it on for a few hours then switched off again. We are given several (sometimes conflicting and contradictory) reasons for this.

Yet our clever population voted them into power!

It is high time Ugu collapsed and was replaced by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality – or some competent private enterprise.

We collectively need to denounce this sorry state of affairs and insist on a suitable long-term remedy.
