Nothing on this Earth is eternal. Like we didn’t know the day we would be born (ie: we had zero control personally over it) the same is true for the day of our departure from this planet.
Therefore we should walk humbly before our Creator. He is the One who gave us life, and He is the One who has reserved a place for us in His eternal kingdom in the hereafter.
No one can say with one hundred percent certainty what awaits ‘on the other side’.
The bible does give plenty of clues though.
And in the words of Jesus (and other writers) it’s clear that a heaven and a hell awaits.
This may sound unfair and can be hard to understand, but the bible explains that God is just… and that one day all things will be made clear.
Heaven and hell are for eternity, without end, according to what is written in the bible.
That is most sobering. In a million years, both will still exist. In a hundred million years both will still exist.
The decision as to which side of eternity we end up on is ours.
God sent Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that we could be reconciled to Him.

Perhaps humanity does not fully understand that it was our own rebellion and sin that caused the separation from God.
This started all the way back with Adam and Eve and is a condition mankind has inherited. It wasn’t God’s fault.
The way back is through Christ. God in His grace had a redeeming plan for mankind.
So that is why we should number our days on Earth. At best we’ll get in 120 years.
But that’s such a tiny fraction of what awaits that we really should be wise about how we spend our time here.
