From the Word: ‘Power, love and self-control’

It's better to lean on God than to try to do things in your own strength.

2 Timothy 1:7 (New International Version)

7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

We all face difficult things in life. What may be easy for some can be overwhelming for others.

But there’s reason to be encouraged, as God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, helps us.

If we are fearful, He gives us the power to shed the timidity and do the things we need to do.

One of these is sharing the gospel. There can be a lot of rejection that follows such an act. God wants Christians to share boldly anyway.

He gives us the power we don’t have in our own fleshly bodies to do what He has called us to do.

God has also shown that He loves us, by sending Christ to die for our sins. The bible states that perfect love casts out all fear.

He also gives us the self-control to be patient.

Life can be extremely frustrating. People, situations and circumstances can be annoying and irritating.

God gives us the strength to show love anyway. And to keep our emotions in check.

How often has a loose word ruined a friendship?

God helps us hold our tongue so that hurtful words are not expressed in the heat of the moment.

The key is to abide in Him, in His love, to be constantly aware of His grace and goodness.
