From the Word: ‘A sure foundation in troubled times’

In these difficult times, God's promises still ring true.

Isaiah 33:5-6 (New International Version)

5 The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with his justice and righteousness.

6 He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.

In these uncertain days, with political and economic turmoil, a sure foundation is something people need.

For Christians, this is found in the Lord.

And the ‘fear’ of the Lord is the key to salvation, wisdom and knowledge.

This does not mean we are to cower before God like a whipped dog.

No, but it does mean we are to have an extremely healthy respect (and awe) of who God is.

Once this happens, we should become very humble, realising that our own abilities and gifts come from God anyway.

Sure, it’s up to us to make the most of those talents and gifts, but they come from God.

Salvation is locked up in Jesus Christ, his death, burial and resurrection.

Once that’s in place, then the wisdom and knowledge follow.

The Bible says that it’s the fear of the Lord that is the beginning of wisdom.

And there’s also a difference between godly wisdom and human understanding.

Put your trust in God. Ultimately, He will see that justice and righteousness prevail.
