OPINION: ‘Law enforcement professional and helpful’

One so often sees negative publicity about our police and I feel wherever something positive can be said, it should.

DEAR Editor,-

Recently a friend went missing and, not knowing how to handle the situation, I contacted another friend, Colonel Allen Grainger of SAPS Margate, who told us to report the situation immediately to SAPS Southport.

He preempted our dithering and phoned Detective Warrant Officers Stephen Latin and Chris du Plessis, who came to my office before we could get to the station.

They got all the information we could supply and went to her home to see if they could find anything, while a mutual friend and I went to SAPS Southport to complete a missing person’s report.

In all, the response and professionalism we received was exemplary from all involved.

In the end it turned out that our missing friend had been hijacked at Park Rynie, but fortunately was unharmed. The Scottburgh police were very professional and helpful. They recovered her car and delivered it to her home in Pumula.

One so often sees negative publicity about our police and I feel wherever something positive can be said, it should.
