From the Word: A firm foundation in troubled times

The Psalm shows that God's heart is to pick us up when we stumble and fall.

Psalm 37 vs 23-24 New International Version (NIV)

23 The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him;

24 though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

In times where foundations are creaking, it’s reassuring to know that something ‘firm’ is possible.

For Christians, this firm foundation is found in God.

Yes, life on Earth is challenging in many ways, but God has promised in His Word that He will make our steps firm.

Our part is to delight in Him, to live our lives in ways that please Him.

The first part of that is to believe that He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins.

In some ways, it’s not much different from being a parent.

We would like our own children to listen to our advice and guidance.

However, when things don’t go quite as planned, God does not push us when we are down.

No, he upholds us.

In the same way, parents don’t crush their children when they fail.

No, we pick them up and help them on their way.

Sometimes it can difficult to understand why God doesn’t just rescue us from all our troubles.

This may be difficult to see or understand in the natural.

However, it is worth noting that God usually has an eternal plan in mind.

If you accept that eternity is real, then you may have mulled over the infinite endlessness of it all.

A few tough years on Earth is nothing compared to being on the right side of eternity forever.
