OPINION: ‘Who is actually in charge of water on the South Coast?’

It’s time ratepayers fought back. I for one will be supporting the planned class-action suit.

DEAR Editor,-

The question must be asked: Who is in charge of water on the South Coast? Is it Ugu or SAMWU? To me it would appear that SAMWU is calling the shots.

Ugu workers are taking their orders from the union and if the meeting held on Tuesday this week was anything to go by, the union is not budging on its demands.

Ugu and the provincial authorities have to stand up to SAMWU or run the risk, if all the union’s demands are not met, of similar action during the looming holiday period. (Is that why SAMWU won’t sign the agreement?)

With reports of our desperate situation having appeared in the Sunday Times, eNCA television, The Mercury and East Coast Radio, the South Coast’s reputation has been trashed nationally.

It’s time ratepayers fought back. I believe a class-action suit is planned – I for one will be supporting it.

IRATE RATEPAYER,

Ramsgate
