OPINION: ‘Account materialises ‘out of the blue’

Are we paying two municipalities for one bare piece of land?

DEAR Editor,-

As the owner of lot 442/2 at 15 Connor Street, Harding, 4680 and account number 10282585 from Ugu District Municipality, I have a complaint about an annual account that has been paid in full (June 2017-2018).

Out of the blue somebody created an account for the sum of R2 174.56 from Umuziwabantu Municipality addressed to KC Lupke, 17 Livingstone Street, lot 442/2 with a threatening letter of demand which was paid by my sister who works at Harding Post Office.

Are we paying two municipalities for one bare piece of land?

They are still demanding R30 monthly, which is being paid, but there are no previous records of this account.

Am I being disenfranchised by crooked means as an owner when paying rates?

D LUPKE
