DEAR Editor,-
I would like to thank the Port Edward Ratepayers’ Committee which rallied around to assist the community by keeping businesses, doctors, schools and static tanks in town full during the water crisis. We distributed 314 000 litres of water over five days and circulated over 2 000 five-litre bottles of water.

There are so many to thank, but I will start with those who opened up their boreholes to us: Mike van Rensburg, Dave Watson, Barry Payn, Port Edward Country Club, Ocean View Bed and Breakfast and the Estuary Hotel.
Then:
– Our own Port Edward Ratepayers’ Association – for purchasing the pump and tank to transport water;
– Jenny Westray and Alec Wichman and their staff for their five ton truck and two 2 500 litre tanks;
– The Port Edward garage for fuel donations;
– Coastal Farmers for the tank they donated;
– Denham McClure for the use of his trailer;
– Kyle Collier for his water tank; and
– Build-it Port Edward for discounting equipment we purchased (to cost price).
Every single one of the above-mentioned played a vital part in keeping people supplied with water. Thank you very much.
PETER BRERETON
Chairman, Port Edward Ratepayers’ Association
