DEAR Editor,-
It is with a heavy heart filled with sadness that we write this letter. As of this December, ‘The Rock Music Bistro’ will be closed permanently.
So, on behalf of all of us, we say a massive thank you to all our loyal supporters and a huge thank you to all the amazing musicians for supporting us over the years.

From the very beginning, the vision of ‘The Rock’ was to have a local place where musicians could have a platform to perform and this was achieved way beyond our expectations. The support we have had from customers has been incredible. Not only was ‘The Rock’ a platform for up and coming musicians, it also became a venue that musicians longed to play at.
We have had incredible musicians grace our stage, namely: Robin Auld, Rubber Duc, Arno Carstens, Chris Chameleon, Dan Ptlansky, Phil Moffet, Nibs van der Spuy, Guy Buttery, Greg Georgiades, Larry Amos, Brian Finch, Dave Starke, Rowan Stuart, Mali Zulu, Chico Muya, proposed collaboration with Gamalhake Music School cannot be sustained (The Esayidi Fete College African Jazz students), Laurie Levine and Josie Field, The Connecting Stars, Piet Botha and the Akkadisse and many, many more.
We currently have requests from Mathew Mole, Henry Ate and many others, who we now have to turn down. ‘The Rock’ has been a great local venue and we simply cannot believe that it has come to an end.
It’s very unfortunate and incredibly sad that three property owners (who are NOT permanent residents in Umzumbe) have not seen reason, working with us to control sound levels.
As you all know, the incredible owners worked super hard to support the community and finally pleasing most of the community with the changes they have made to control sound levels. And still these three property owners feel the need to shut us down.
Ultimately 13 people lose their jobs. Most of them are single moms and/or single breadwinners, community outreach programmes cannot be realised and the issuing and purchasing of staff JoJo tanks has been shelved.
We are devastated.
We will be having one last party, so diarise this Saturday, December 9, when we will be celebrating the past 10 years of ‘The Rock’. Please see our Facebook page or contact 072 1415621 for more details.
