DEAR Editor,-
What is the problem with Home Affairs? I applied for a birth certificate two years ago, but have yet to receive it. I have made numerous phone calls and sent plenty emails, which were mostly unanswered, especially when addressed to supervisors or superiors.

So far (in excess of 25 times) I have received the standard phrase answer: “The application is still in the process and not yet finalised. We have not received feedback from the official working on your case or heard from the processing unit on what the cause of the delay is.
We have however in an attempt to get the application finalised, sent another urgent request to a supervisor and the processing unit, kindly requesting that they make a follow up in seven (7) working days. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the delay.”
And then there is Ugu! In June, my water meter went missing and four months later (October) a new one was installed.
The water consumption was estimated and continues to be estimated and to-date a reading of the new meter has not been done. Nobody answers the phone and my emails are ignored.
None of this should not be a surprise in the RSA of today since ‘the fish rots from the head.’
