OPINION: ‘Municipality must be held accountable’

I suggest all of them withhold payment until there is printed word from Ugu that issues are resolved and there will be a regular and reliable water supply in future.

DEAR Editor,-

Ugu is responsible for supplying water. The back of their statements mention credit control and non-payment and tampering which results in being charged financially and criminally.

Ugu and its water supply is erratic and inconsistent. Taps run dry, resulting in the purchasing of bottled drinking water, having to drive to collect water and so on.

YOU MIGHT ALSO BE INTERESTED IN : Yes, we WILL have water this festive season, Ugu assures

It’s an inconvenience for all and a significant loss of income to many – with total, selfish disregard for the future of the South Coast.

Rumour has it water disruption stems from worker dissatisfaction. Whatever. I have had enough. I am tired of ‘adults’ unable to resolve differences and problems. I have not caused the problem.

Ugu actually states that tampering is a criminal offence and those responsible must be charged financially and criminally! Has anything been done about that? Deafening silence and poor public relations skills from Ugu … as usual.

Ugu – just remember: you are responsible to your account holders – we are actually your livelihood. Are you playing your part?

My form of protest against this ongoing nonsense of broken pipes and empty reservoirs is to not pay my water account until you publish a public letter that ALL issues have been resolved satisfactorily, water will be supplied and, infrastructure will be maintained competently for all users.

There are many disgruntled account holders and I suggest all of them withhold payment until there is printed word from Ugu that issues are resolved and there will be a regular and reliable water supply in future.
