OPINION: ‘Event control must be a priority’

Drunk and disorderly people were walking through the roads of St Michaels screaming, urinating and defecating openly.

DEAR Editor,-

We are new residents on the South Coast and were so disgusted over the past week!

The first question is why close off all the roads and force traffic onto Orange Rocks Road? None of this makes sense. We are also homeowners and why should we not also be afforded some protection against traffic coming from the main beach. Countless cars and taxis are forced on this conservation-reserved area, which is destroyed by pollution and drunken people who have absolutely no respect for nature.

Why are these drunk and disorderly people allowed in public areas – walking through the roads of St Michael’s screaming, urinating and defecating openly in conservation areas. I believe that these people were behaving like criminals, yet authorities allowed them to do as they pleased!

Surely municipalities have some responsibility towards residents and tax-paying citizens who take pride in their community, regardless of race or culture!

What can we do to keep our beautiful beaches from becoming drunken, drug-infested stinking sewage holes where nobody wants to be seen. And all because of people who have no respect. It is so sad…

Please can control be a priority for all future events, before it’s too late!
