OPINION: ‘Thumbs up to Ugu for their swift response’

The friendly Ugu service team arrived after following the torch direction while conversing with me over the wall.

DEAR Editor,-

Hearing gushing water just outside my boundary wall last Saturday evening got me phoning the Ugu Disaster Management number to report the burst pipe – which was in the exact same spot of a previous incident where the pipe exploded during the night resulting in my whole boundary wall collapsing and causing major damage to an outbuilding on the property.

Investigating the damage myself after driving around the block to the site, I phoned a second time realising it was a serious situation requiring urgent attention.

The friendly operator assured me the team had already been despatched after I explained the previous incident and the severe damage it had caused.

He told me they were on their way and shouldn’t be too long. Watching the water seeping into my property, I was naturally concerned that it could become a crisis situation again as water was flowing fast, like a waterfall.

Then I heard my phone ring. It was the Ugu team asking “Can you direct us to the exact spot? We are here in Norwood Road.” Since it was already dark and in a difficult spot covered by bush, I ran out with a torch pointing to the spot on the pavement from the inside of my property.

A minute later the friendly Ugu service team arrived after following the torch direction to the area while conversing with me over the wall because we could not see each other.

They told me that they were on site, that the problem was serious, but I was not to worry – they would get it fixed and I must have a good night. What excellent service! And on a Saturday night.

Then on Tuesday morning this week, I received a voicemail on my landline saying “Complaint has been resolved. If you have any further queries, please contact us.” Ugu sure gets my ‘thumbs up’ for this excellent service. Well done to the team who helped me – and a heartfelt thank you once again.
