‘Butthead’s Beat’ SCH January 19 refers. Why are we so hypocritical? ‘The Donald’ (USA President Donald Trump) called African countries ‘****hole countries’ and many of us who live in ‘Africa’ know he is right, and there are many ‘vloggers’ (video bloggers) out there who affirm Mr Trump’s views and also call their own countries ‘****holes’ (as said by a Nigerian vlogger recently who lives in USA).

The lack of decent governance is probably the main reason for the huge African diaspora out of Africa to anywhere else.
All we have to do is read the newspapers or watch the news. All over Africa – the same stories day in day out: abuse of power by rotten, corrupt leaders and governments, many of whom have been power enriching themselves for 30+ years.
‘Ethnic’ wars and war lords, bribery and endemic corruption and, here in South Africa ‘State capture’ of important ministries and SOEs staffed with ‘cadres’, colleagues or friends – with little knowledge or competence for what they are doing.
Over-population, lack of respect and care by governments for pensioners, the aged or children. Appalling or no service delivery, especially to the poor who lack proper housing, sanitation, provision of water and jobs; lack of maintenance or care by governments at all levels everywhere, whether it’s schools, hospitals, universities, water, sewage, dams, electricity or roads.
Little or no respect or protection for the environment, oceans, national parks or wildlife which are being poached and decimated indiscriminately all over the African continent – for money.
Everything seems neglected or abused and few of those in government could care less because they are all so busy enriching themselves to the detriment of their countries.
Litter, garbage and illegal dumping everywhere; raw sewage in rivers, lagoons and running down urban streets; abuse and rape of women and children; stealing, robbery, hijackings, murders, gangland drugs, appropriation of land never put to proper use … ‘****hole’ countries? Oh, yes! For once Mr Trump probably hit the nail on the head.
