OPINION: ‘Policeman Patrick obviously poses a threat’

It is incomprehensive why his superiors, who issued his certificates of merit, failed to testify in court.

DEAR Editor,-

Where else in the world does a victim of crime become charged as the perpetrator, the accused?

High-ranking officials in police and security, guilty of the most heinous crimes and dastardly deeds, walk free. Yet, an ethical, conscientious, compassionate inspector Patrick Gosling, who resorted to self-defence, is still languishing in prison.

It is obvious that this dedicated official may pose a threat to corrupt members of the police force. It is incomprehensive why his superiors, who issued his certificates of merit, failed to testify in court.

It is inconceivable that members of the medical and nursing profession can be totally devoid of compassion, witnessing daily the starvation, dehydration and hypothermia of defenceless patients, trusted to their care – resulting in organ failure and finally death.

Yet none of these, guilty of homicide and murder, is charged. Why? Was this a Machiavellian ploy to exterminate a helpless group of patients?

During the hearings, these medical employees, displaying massive, repulsive bulks, no doubt attributed to gorging, shed copious crocodile tears, not of remorse; but wept for fear of prosecution.

Another bone of contention is the refusal of Julius Malema and his cronies, supported by the ANC, to accept the court ruling, refusing English-speaking pupils admission into an Afrikaans medium school.

This school not only provides tuition in Afrikaans, but imparts the Afrikaans culture and tradition.

This culture venerates the elderly and the word ‘you’ is not used when addressing an elderly person. for example, if a child speaks to a parent, the parent is addressed as mother/father.

A child may inquire whether ‘Mother would like tea?’ and not ‘Do you want tea?’ How many incidences of armed robbery and rape, targeting the elderly, occur?

The Department of Education encourages teaching in the vernacular. Violently protesting parents should be realistic. They should also cease polluting the environment with tyre-burning and return to work.

With Ramaphosa as ANC president, the public both welcomes and anticipates a healthy change in the political climate.
