OPINION: ‘Going bananas over expensive imports’

What kind of support is this for South Africa if even our supermarkets don’t support our farmers.

DEAR Editor,-

I recently went to shop at Checkers in the Southcoast Mall.

I needed bananas, so although they were more expensive than usual, I bought half a dozen.

When I unpacked my groceries I found a tiny little label on these expensive bananas stating ‘ECUADOR’?

Here we are surrounded by banana farms – Locals trying to make a living.

What kind of support is this for South Africa if even our supermarkets don’t support our farmers.
