DEAR Editor,-
Almost a year and a half has passed since our dog ‘PJ’ disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
It has been a harrowing experience for our family, particularly since our own investigations have uncovered enough to suspect that he was taken by a dog-fighting syndicate.

We would like to thank the Herald, especially Shona Aylward, for her support and the articles that helped raised awareness. We would also like to thank the South Coast community for their support.
Police investigations have not been very helpful in this regard, but I would like to take the opportunity to appeal to all on the coast to remain vigilant and secure your dogs.
However vile and disgusting, these syndicates are real, evidenced by recent arrests in Johannesburg.
While we still are not sure of PJ’s whereabouts or fate, we have resolved to make peace with the matter – forgive, but not forget. We will not give up our search.
Our prayer is still for the safety of all dogs on the coast and that the people involved will be exposed and held accountable for their abominable and loathsome acts.
THE VAN DE RUIT FAMILY
