OPINION: ‘Look for a bakkie parked under a tree!’

They very arrogantly said they ‘have been coming for the last five years and parked under a tree in Quarry Road.’

DEAR Editor,-

I refer to the recent article in the Herald by Ntandoyenkosi Dlamini entitled ‘Bring your pets for free rabies jabs’.

On Tuesday, February 27th, we went to Port Shepstone Borough Grounds at 12.30pm (as advertised) to have our dogs vaccinated.

We waited for an hour and in the meantime, more people arrived with their pets.

After an hour of waiting for the KZN Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, Jenny Robertson from Hibiscus Kennel Club phoned the Herald offices to find out what had happened.

Eventually we found out that they had gone right past the borough grounds and parked up Quarry Road under a tree on the side of the road.

When we asked them why they didn’t come to the grounds, they very arrogantly said they ‘had been coming for the last five years and parked under a tree in Quarry Road.’

We explained that we were told to go to the borough grounds and they must have seen us waiting with our pets.

There were about 15 couples altogether. If anyone else arrived after we left, they probably also went to the borough grounds – unless they had been before?

Surely we all couldn’t be wrong? Most of us were new to KZN and it was most frustrating.

Just thought I would let you guys know for next year to tell people to go to ‘Quarry Road past the borough grounds and look for a bakkie parked under a tree!’
