DEAR Editor,-
I have just spent some time reading the South Coast Herald dated March 2 and wish to congratulate you on an excellent community paper that is well-balanced and very informative for both local and visiting readers.
I am both local and visiting, since we visit our holiday home here about four times a year for extended periods.
I was wondering how some insight and pressure can be brought about on the local municipality to properly attend to the health status of the Uvongo lagoon and beach.

In the three years that we have come down here, we have never been allowed to swim in the lagoon and on many occasions the beach was closed due to contamination from burst pipes or upstream sewage.
It is as if the local governing body is just not interested in dealing with the problem or they are incapable.
Reading the related articles, it sounds more like a governing body that is out of control and more interested in self-enrichment, than serving the community and making sure that it attracts South African and foreign visitors to build the local economy and thus capitalising on the natural beauty of this wonderful South Coast.
I have bought prime property at a premium, but we are unable to make use of the surrounding facilities, due to the incapability of the local authority. (With further reference to the article about the Margate swimming pool.)
How do we get some long-term and sustainable thinking going in the council and management of our region?
Maybe we can get some views on this from readers, views that might just swing the sentiments and action of local governance structures.
