OPINION: ‘Local councils drive people from the coast’

This was typified by the extra half day paid leave last Thursday granted at Council two days previously.

DEAR Editor,-

The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality exists for the benefit of the cadres that “work” for the municipality rather than the ratepayers who pay their salaries. This was typified by the extra half day paid leave last Thursday granted at Council two days previously.

Few people knew about it as it was only published in the local press on the day of the granted leave and then it only mentioned the offices are closed. The effect of the extra time off was that many beach toilets were locked at mid-day. The beaches were busy as it was hot and there were a lot of angry visitors and locals who couldn’t use the toilets.

The Ray Nkonyeni website claims that the municipality is committed to providing quality services for all and is tourist friendly. RNM, along with Ugu, drive people away from the South Coast.
