DEAR Editor,-
I am a pensioner and suffered a nasty fall a few years ago, resulting in my right leg deteriorating to the point where I required a complete knee replacement.
I attended the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital and was nothing short of amazed. The hospital runs in a systematic and efficient manner with staff displaying the care and compassion you would only expect to find in a private institution. They registered my file and told me there was a waiting list of at least 18 months. Nevertheless, I was patient.

It was only when hearing about the fire at the hospital and the destruction of patient files that I became concerned. A family member went to the hospital to enquire about my file and despite the fire, they were able to locate it. They further informed us that my operation would be done in the very near future and they would contact me shortly.
True to their word, on March 15, Dr Freek Coetzee and his amazing team successfully completed the operation and I was discharged two days later.
My sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr Coetzee, the theatre staff, ward nurses, the sister and all caregivers for their outstanding service to us as patients and to the community as a whole. May your work ethic, compassion and empathy continue to drive you to even greater heights of success.
