My driver’s licence was due for renewal at the end of February 2018.

During the first week of February I obtained a certificate from my optometrist, printed my ID copy and proof of residence, ensured that I had the correct application form and fee and took a casual drive to Umzinto.

There were two people being attended to in the office, two people in the queue outside, and myself. Fifty minutes later I was on my way back home.

The woman in attendance suggested I cut my old licence into small pieces before trashing it and that I keep my receipt in a safe place.

I was informed that my new licence would be ready in about eight weeks.

By the way, the waiting area outside has a roof – so, no hot sun and no rain or umbrellas.
