DEAR Editor,-
I refer to ‘Disgruntled Ratepayer’s’ letter about the recycling depot at Port Edward.
The idea of recycling is a good one, but unfortunately depots are often misused.
Some people see these recycling bins as licence to leave any kind of rubbish.
When there was a recycling depot near the Ramsgate Community Hall there were, among other things, broken ceiling fans, old carpets and builders’ rubble dumped all around the bins.
And this, at the entrance to a nature trail! After removal of the bins, the area has been clean ever since.
I believe that the two-bag system is eventually going to be implemented in all villages in the district.
Hopefully, this will be soon, then we can dispense with those dirty misused bins.
